The “Prémio Nacional de Banda Desenhada” (National Comic Book Award), presented by DGLAB – Direção Geral do Livro, dos Arquivos e das Bibliotecas (Directorate-General for Books, Archives, and Libraries), honors and promotes Portuguese creativity in the world of comics. It recognizes the merit of creators, highlights significant works, and encourages formal and thematic innovation, contributing to the visibility and preservation of comics in Portugal. It is organized into three categories: Lifetime Achievement, which honors a career of excellence; Work of the Year, which distinguishes a recent publication; and Innovation in Comics, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the evolution of the sector.
